Dr. Zhang is a tenured Associate Professor of special education at the Texas A&M University. In the past six years at Clemson University, Dr. Zhang has secured several externally-funded projects and served as project director for these projects, which focused on self-determination instruction and mentoring services between college students with disabilities and high school students with disabilities. Recently, he has secured a three-year $1 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education to provide training to university faculty and administration in providing quality services to students with disabilities. Another project that he has just secured with other faculty members at TAMU is the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, a five-year project funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Zhang was a recipient of a student-initiated research project in 1997-98 and author and key personnel of two major federally-funded projects in Louisiana, including a filed-initiated research project funded by NIDRR of the U.S. Department of Education. He has been prolific and nationally recognized for his research and scholarly work, particularly in the areas of transition education, self-determination instruction, and promoting postsecondary education. His research work has been published in major special education journals. In addition, Dr. Zhang has extensive collaborative experiences with state agencies and disability services offices. He has served on editorial and professional organization boards.
