Kentucky Dropout Prevention Guide
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Division of Exceptional Children Services's (DECS) home page targets the successful transition of all students from school to post-school activities - whether postsecondary education, vocational training, integrated employment, continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living or community participation. We also recognize that many other transitions occur over the course of the life of an individual. The page provides access to a variety of resources relating to transition. Professional Development Resources:
SPP Indicator 13 (Secondary Transition) WebEx trainings were conducted by the Division of Learning Services (DLS) on September 9, 2010, and on September 28, 2010. Participants are reminded of the specific regulatory requirements for Indicator 13, and learn how to develop Individual Education Programs (IEPs) that include the required transition content for each youth. Since the training includes opportunities for participants to practice reviewing the file of a student (age sixteen (16) or older) for compliance with Indicator 13, participants are to have a student file available to review. Other State Activities:
KY is engaged in a student-directed IEP project, including professional training to foster a better understanding of various ways to engage students in their IEP. During the 2006/7 school year all 6th graders completed an Individual Learning Plan. The Plan included courses of study and an identification of a post-secondary goal. Plans are updated on an annual basis.
